In order to understand our present, first one must look to our past.
Long ago the world was a very different place, people were different. There was a sense of balance and peace, allowing all realms to freely move about with one another. Mortal humans and beings of magic lived in one community. All civilizations reach their peak, their ' Golden Age '. The same can be said with Eras. Once one is at the top, if they cannot hold their ground- there is nowhere left to go but down. Several groups of a darker nature began to feel greed, and it was a constant hunger. It is not uncommon to hear of power corrupting, and it was lead to more than one mighty war- and as sure as time moves forward it will call men to war again. It was this greed and corruption that lead to the destruction of this peaceful existence. The magical beings began to fight amongst one another, light against dark. The mortal men could offer little aide to either side, and many were killed. So the mortal leaders decided they would have no more dealings with those of magic. The deaths of their kin would forever remain a black mar on their memories, and their hearts. They turned their back on a world they no longer wished to acknowledge, believing it was the only way to save themselves.
The magical beings fought for many generations, in fact the war still wages heavily in many distant realms. But those stories are not for us to worry over- at least not for the moment. When the mortal humans fled, little did most of them realize that they took a rare treasure with them. For before the wars began, the powerful white witch, Callista had fallen in love and wedded a mortal man. Together they had three children, and when the wars broke out, Callista was forced to remain behind- but her children left with their father into the mortal realm. With her gift of foresight, she knew that it wouldn't be long before magical creatures began to find their way into the mortals 'safe haven', and it was her desire to see it protected, to be given a chance to thrive and perhaps find the same peace and harmony that they held before.
So in the realm of mortals the three children were raised, the truth about their heritage kept secret to all but those in the family. Their Father did the best he could to raise them, and help train them in discovering and strengthening their individual powers. Once they were all grown up, they decided to found their own safe haven. A place for magical beings who managed to find their way into this new realm. They looked long and hard for the perfect location, finally deciding upon the small town of Redwood Falls, Oregon. It was here that they built their school Dreamscape Academy. And it is here that magical beings have been able to survive and thrive for many generations. Learning about their past, their powers, and more importantly how to live amongst the humans in peace.
Many life times have passed since the founding of the Academy, and yet it is still ran by Callista's descendants. New times call for new ideas, and some of the Elders have started to ask questions. Is it worth it? To stay hidden among the mortals, hoping that maybe one day they will be free to live as themselves in the public eye? They demand answers, and positive results. So for the first time in the Academy's history, it is opening it's doors to mortal human students. Those of Supernatural origins are still meant to conceal the truth from them, only letting out small bits and pieces over time to see how the mortals will react... To find out if enough time has gone by for magical and non-magical beings to once more live in peace together. As always there are those who would wish to see this fail, darkness seems to be growing ever closer. Already some of the Dark Elders are slipping their own magical students into Dreamscape to try and ruin this 'test run'. If the mortals and supernatural ones are unable to co-exist and work together... Well this time around, there is a good chance that none of them will survive.
